Jessica Silvey

Coast Salish Weaver & Fibre Artist

Jessica Silvey is a Coast Salish weaver and fibre artist whose work celebrates the rich traditions of cedar and wool weaving. For more than thirty years, she has practiced and shared these traditional art forms, drawing inspiration from the cedar root baskets woven by her grandmothers and aunts.

Through years of research, hands-on learning, and harvesting her own natural materials, Jessica has developed a deep understanding of traditional weaving techniques, plant dyes, and medicines. Her work reflects a lifelong commitment to preserving and sharing Indigenous knowledge.

In 2016, Jessica founded Red Cedar Woman Weaving Studio, where she offers immersive workshops in Coast Salish basketry, Salish weaving, and the traditional harvesting of plants used for dyes and medicines. She has shared her knowledge with First Nations, schools, museums, universities, and communities across British Columbia and beyond.

As an artist, educator, and curator, Jessica continues to celebrate Coast Salish culture while inspiring others to connect with the land, traditional teachings, and the enduring art of weaving.
