xets’emits’a Candace Campo

Artist, Cultural Educator & Storyteller

xets'emits'a Candace Campo, whose ancestral name means "to always be there," is a proud member of the shíshálh Nation and the artist who created the syiyaya Reconciliation Movement logo. Born and raised on the Sunshine Coast, Candace's work reflects her deep connection to the land, her culture, and the stories of her people.

Together with her husband, Larry Campo, Candace founded Talaysay Tours in 2002, creating Indigenous cultural and outdoor experiences that connect people with the history, traditions, and teachings of the Coast Salish peoples. Drawing on her background in anthropology, education, and the knowledge shared by her parents and Elders, she brings learning to life through storytelling and land-based experiences.

Passionate about Indigenous language and cultural revitalization, Candace is dedicated to creating opportunities for future generations. Through tourism, film, digital storytelling, and mentorship, she helps inspire young Indigenous leaders while sharing the richness of Indigenous culture with local and international audiences.

Candace continues to make invaluable contributions to the syiyaya Reconciliation Movement through her artwork, cultural tours, workshops, and the wisdom she brings to the movement. Her creativity and leadership help build understanding, strengthen relationships, and inspire reconciliation through shared learning.
