Visioning Reconciliation

Imagining a Shared Future

The Visioning for Reconciliation project created opportunities for Indigenous and non-Indigenous community members to come together in dialogue, explore what reconciliation means, and consider how we can build stronger relationships across the shíshálh swiya.

Through facilitated dialogue circles, participants shared perspectives, challenged misconceptions, and explored practical ways to advance reconciliation in our community. During the COVID-19 pandemic, these conversations were paired with Indigenous eco-tours and land-based learning experiences, creating meaningful opportunities to connect while learning from the land.

The project also helped identify systemic barriers to reconciliation, while highlighting the importance of education, relationship-building, and ongoing dialogue as pathways to addressing anti-Indigenous racism and creating lasting change.

Through these conversations, we strengthened relationships across the shíshálh swiya, bringing together representatives from the shíshálh Nation, Sunshine Coast Regional District, District of Sechelt, Town of Gibsons, local organizations, community groups, and members of the public.

By creating spaces for open dialogue and shared learning, the project fostered new partnerships and a deeper understanding of reconciliation throughout the community. Most importantly, we strengthened the relationships within our sk'ak'ts'itawilh Committee, reaffirming our shared commitment to Indigenous healing, non-Indigenous education, and walking the journey of reconciliation together.
