The syiyaya Reconciliation Movement (“syiyaya,” “we,” or “us”) values your trust and is committed to handling personal information with care. This policy explains how we collect, use, protect and share personal information through our website and related communications.
We handle personal information in accordance with applicable privacy laws, including British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).
2 Information we collect
When you contact us through our website, we collect the information you provide, such as your name, email address, phone number, organization and message. When you subscribe to our mailing list, we collect your email address and any other information requested on the signup form.
Please avoid including sensitive personal information in a general website message unless it is needed for your request.
Our website and its service providers may also collect technical information, such as your IP address, browser type, pages visited and the time of your visit.
3 How we use your information
We collect only information reasonably needed to:
- Respond to questions and requests.
- Communicate about volunteering, partnerships and community activities.
- Send newsletters, stories and event invitations to subscribers.
- Maintain website security, resolve technical problems and meet legal obligations.
4 Your choices and consent
We explain why we need personal information when we request it and obtain consent as required by law. Sending us a message does not automatically add you to our mailing list.

We do not sell or trade your personal information. We share it with authorized people and service providers only as needed to operate the website, manage communications or respond to your request. We use Mailchimp, a third-party email service provider, to manage our mailing list and send newsletters, stories and event invitations. Subscriber email addresses and other information provided on the signup form are stored and processed through Mailchimp.
6 Processing outside Canada
Some service providers, including Mailchimp, may process, store or access personal information outside Canada. Information handled in another country may be subject to that country’s laws, including lawful access by government or law enforcement agencies.
7 Donations and external websites
Our website links to CanadaHelps for donations. Information you provide through CanadaHelps is handled under its own privacy policy and donation terms.
Other external websites also have their own privacy practices, which we encourage you to review.
8 Cookies and embedded content
Cookies are small files stored on your device. Websites may use cookies and similar technologies to support functionality and security or understand how visitors use the site.
Embedded content, such as a third-party video player, may send information about your device or visit to its provider and may use its own cookies.

We use reasonable safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information, including restricting access to authorized people and protecting the accounts and systems that hold it.
