These two speaker style sashes have the traditional Coast Salish colours – black, red and white. Black represents the water, the red represents skalmixw – us as First Nations people – and it also represents medicine and healing, and the white represents purity and strength.  The sashes will be to honour all the Residential School Survivors.  When one wears a sash it is usually for a speaker, so the sashes will be for all the Survivors to be able to speak and share their stories, to be able to heal in a good way. Andy  warped up the sashes in all three colours: black representing the dark times faced by the Survivors, and the red and white representing how our shishalh people are now coming to the light and on a healing journey through reconciliation.”
