Film Nights

The Road Forward, a musical documentary by Marie Clements, was shown in March 2019. The film connects a pivotal moment in Canada’s civil rights history—the beginnings of Indian Nationalism in the 1930s—with the powerful momentum of First Nations activism today.

Two screenings were held: one for Sunshine Coast School District students and another for the general public. Elders Maurice and Delhia, who appeared in the film, joined us for both screenings.

Ladies of the Inlet, the acclaimed film by Annie Frazier Henry, was shown to shíshálh Nation members on November 7, 2019. Completed in 1995, the film documents a journey by sea with six of the eldest women of the shíshálh Nation to their majestic ancestral homelands in Jervis Inlet, BC.

The film holds deep importance for shíshálh Nation members. Many of the people who appeared in the film or supported the Elders during filming attended the screening. The Elders who participated were remembered, and the families of five Elders who had journeyed on that year were honoured.
