Exploring Reconciliation

Learning Together, Growing Together

The Exploring Reconciliation project brought the community together through workshops, dialogue circles, films, and cultural events designed to encourage learning, reflection, and meaningful conversation. Public talks, KAIROS Blanket Exercises, and screenings of the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network's First Contact invited participants to explore the history and ongoing impacts of colonization while fostering respectful dialogue between Indigenous and non-Indigenous community members. Each event created opportunities to listen, ask questions, and build understanding.

In 2019, the project expanded to include a screening of the musical documentary The Road Forward, workshops at the shíshálh Longhouse, and additional community events developed in response to local interest and requests.

The success of Exploring Reconciliation was made possible through strong community partnerships, including the Sechelt Public Library, Friends of the Sechelt Library, the shíshálh Nation, School District No. 46, and Vancity. Together, these collaborations helped create welcoming spaces where learning, dialogue, and relationship-building could continue to grow.
