Orange day 2026

Celebrating Together

On June 27, 2025, the syiyaya Reconciliation Movement welcomed the community to the shíshálh Nation Longhouse to celebrate bringing the BC Reconciliation Award home to the Sunshine Coast.

The celebration brought together Elders, Residential School Survivors, community members, elected officials, partners, volunteers, and supporters to honour the relationships that have been built over many years. We were especially honoured to welcome The Honourable Steven L. Point (Xwĕ lī qwĕl tĕl), former Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, as our honoured guest. His presence reflected the importance of reconciliation and the power of communities walking this journey together.

Through welcoming words, songs, cultural performances, and shared stories, the gathering celebrated not only a provincial honour, but the collective efforts of everyone who has helped shape the syiyaya Reconciliation Movement.

It was a day filled with gratitude, reflection, celebration, and a renewed commitment to continue building relationships and advancing reconciliation together.

The Journey Continues

Receiving the BC Reconciliation Award is an honour, but it is not the destination.

Reconciliation is something we continue to practice every day through relationships, education, dialogue, cultural learning, and community action.

We invite everyone to be part of this journey. Whether you attend an event, watch one of our educational videos, volunteer, partner with us, or simply begin a conversation, every step helps build a stronger and more connected community.

Together, we continue walking the path of reconciliation.
